Great to Visit, Great To Stay

1The traditional market towns of Braintree and Halstead, together with the old spa town of Witham sit comfortably within the gentle rolling countryside of North Essex where the country parks and footpaths give access to long reaching views over wheat fields dotted with poppies and windmills to medieval villages, such as Coggeshall with its Cisterican monks barn, remains of an abbey and homes of wealthy wool merchants – now famed for its antique shops – Castle Hedingham, with timber framed houses and dominated by the magnificent castle keep of the De Vere family. Winding lanes lead to craft centres and farmshops with their old fashioned tea shops, unique giftware and local produce whilst the town centres bustle with regular streetmarkets, farmers markets and in the warmer months carnivals and festivals. Farmhouse B&Bs and old coaching inns provide a relaxing environment following a round of golf, a successful days fishing, a visit to the heritage centres and museums or a rewarding days shopping in town or at the discount designer village.
